This weekend has been set aside for construction training/activities. No doubt it will only be the first of many, but nonetheless it's a good start. Today Tammy (WWOOFer) and I went to a Basic Bricklaying Course run by CIT Solutions. It was quite an interesting day in which the instructor provided a little technical background, and a demonstration of some professional techniques, followed by each pair of individuals laying a small wall. In fact, we managed to lay a total of 72 bricks to form a small robust wall (see photo below).

Admittadley the bricks in the wall were a little out of line, and it took us a few hours to lay the 72 bricks (quite a lot longer than a pro) but still it was our first attempt! Overall, it was quite a good and will get better with experience. Tomorrow we will be building some new vegetable garden beds.... |
