At one time the backyard vegetable
patch was a ubiquitous part of the Australian lifestyle. Most homes had a patch
of tomatoes, carrots and beans, along with the chicken run and the ever-present
lemon tree. Unfortunately this is one aspect of Australian culture that has been
lost due to cheaply available fruit and veg at the local greengrocers or
supermarket. However that cheaply available
produce is based upon freely available oil supplies, to produce the synthetic
fertilizers/pesticides/herbicides as well as transport it to market. The day of
the backyard vegetable patch is returning... our very survival may depend upon
it! This section of the TSH website is
dedicated to all those things that we call vegetables. From the long-lived asparagus
to the tenuously short life of a radish. There are beans, tomatoes, eggplant,
capsicum, carrot, etc, etc, etc. A cornucopia of culinary delights to brighten
the smile on any chef’s face! Note: If you have a favourite vegetable, and it isn't mentioned below, then feel free to submit an article to TSH for inclusion. If you'd like to comment on any of the articles, then please use the link to the forums provided on each article so we can all share in each other’s knowledge.
