In western society, most of us have lost that important link with the land and where our food comes from. This is true of plants, but especially true of animals. Most people don’t equate that piece of steak from the Butchers with a cow, nor the flaccid chicken breast bought from the supermarket with a living, breathing bird.

 

But more than that, we are often not aware of how important animals (of all types) are to sustaining the web of life that sustains us. Everything from the bees that pollinate our crops, worms & bacteria that build our soil, and the frogs that maintain insect populations. The truth is that any sustainable garden wouldn’t exist without the tireless, and unpaid, work of a myriad of animals.
